[14] Manana Raza will be Re-Election day to keep our Sheriff the most Honorable Salvador "Chava" Rios for another good term, because he's the Man and he's doing such a great job. Why fix something that is not broke? De todos modos Raza, Salvador Rios es el Sheriff de la gente pobre...Please vote for our Sheriff and let's keep him for as long as God and keep him alive! Avoid La Maquina politica de la gente mala del Aguila, so Vote for Chava Rios to continue being Maverick County's # 1 Sheriff we ever had!

[20] As I commented before, the class of '81 was always in a hurry to leave Eagle Pass. However, they never rushed to forget the people they knew. Many of them left indelible memories in my mind and heart. These are the etchings I carry with me and they are the faces that to this day still inspire my best work. Thanks.

[22] I'm so glad to find your web site. I found it last summer and never could find it again. I was a high school teacher (English, then history) for many years. I have now retired and help out at my husband's business. It's really great to read all the comments from former students. This summer there will be a reunion for anyone who attended or graduated from E.P.H.S. during the '50s.('50 to '59).The reunion will be held in San Antonio this summer. I'll have more iformation later. Some of the young people accessing your website may have parents or grandparents who attended E.P.H.S. during this time.

[42] I too read the article and found it very funny. It is hard to take the article serious because it is so bias. oh, there is no such animal as a 'subjective field sobriety tests' for public intoxication. Maybe Eagle Pass needs better Sheriff candidates, but it definitly needs a better newspaper.

Waco, TX USA - Monday, January 31, 2000 at 00:33:02 (EST)

[43] I just read the recent article about TABC arresting John Bowles and I am appalled by the whole affair. I hope that the State officials responsible for the certification of all those involved as peace officers initiate their own investigation to determine whether the two TABC agents have lent themselves to Maverick County politics and if so that they have their certification withdrawn. If the facts determine that Sheriff Rios had no probable cause to summoned these TABC agents and did it only as harassment, then he should be prosecuted for unlawful detainment and abuse of official authority. But if John Bowles did in fact violate any law then let the court determine his guilt or innocence. It is time for our community to stand up and do something about those that use our State laws in such a manner.
Enough is enough

Eagle Pass, Tx USA - Saturday, January 29, 2000 at 00:49:41 (EST)

[44] I tried submitting this commentary through your link for what I would like John Bowles (or whomever wins) to do as Maverick County Sheriff. What I would like is for that individual to make an honest attempt to return dignity and professionalism, or to bring dignity, integrity, and proffesionalism to E.P. because I don't think we've ever had that. I proud to be from Eagle Pass, but despite this pride I am constantly dissapointed by the actions and corruption of the individuals who partake in the political arena in Eagle Pass. Although this is a very far-fetched wish, I am still allowed to dream.
Without hope we're lost!

[67] I'm so impressed how far this wesite has advanced over the years. Good Job Robert. I just want to say what's up with the class of 1995. It seems that ya'll are in Austin or San Antonio. Living in Austin, I've learned that the people of Eagle Pass have a mark here in Austin. Believe me, if you wear something with EP logo on it, people will stop and ask you about it(no not from El Paso, J/K!!). I'm miss Eagle Pass, but without the crooked politics, heck, I even miss that. Take Care Eagles!

[70] Only seen a few people here from the class of '89 and only a couple I recognize. No mention of how the 10 year reunion went which I, unfortunately, was unable to attend. But, I love the page and have it bookmarked. When my mom sold our house I was sad because I figured all my ties with Eagle Pass were now cut-off. So I am very glad I found this site! I would love to hear from any of my old friends! Feel free to e-mail me!

[73] I want to take this opportunity to congratulate both the team coach and his assistant coach for the tremendous season for the Lady Eagles Volleyball team. The tenacity and vigor of these young ladies coupled with the firm direction has placed them at their high ranking. Their game against United South was indicative what teamwork can do.

[84] In regard to the unsolicited comments made by our webmaster, I am offended by certain comments made, mainly the fact that he stated that most Eagle Passans don't know the difference between the Alma Mater and The Eagle War Cry. As an alumni, I am appalled by such an ignorant comment. What, you think we stood up at the pep rallies and even learned the words to the Alma Mater just to make our principal, the cheerleaders, and the football team happy? You think that those words painted on the gym wall of the former Eagle Pass High School don't signify pride of being an Eagle Pass graduate? The Alma Mater, not to be confused with our fight song, the Eagle War Cry, was the last song we heard when we graduated and the first song we so anticipate at our Homecoming Game. I recently attended a home game and as I arrived, I heard the announcer ask for the Alma Mater and what I heard was not the nostalgic 'Onward mighty Eagles' melody but instead the triumphant Eagle War Cry which signifies the scoring of a touchdown or the team running onto the field. This is what the Eagle War Cry is, a FIGHT song, not a SCHOOL song. Oh wait, I'm not supposed to know the difference according to the information I know. I am not currently residing in Eagle Pass but this Alma Mater issue believe it or not does affect me. After all, I am a 1998 graduate and a very proud former band member. The first song I learned was the Alma Mater and the last song I played was this one as well. I am one of the thousands that know this song by heart and believe it or not, we do hold it dear to us whether we graduated last year or 30 years ago. What bothers me is that fact that we had no input whatsoever on what the fate of OUR school song would be. In this technologically advanced world, I don't understand how some people couldn't make an effort to contact at least the members who hit this web page at least once. We are alumni and I think we should have a voice as well. It's ridiculous to see people try to revert back to 'old' traditions. If the introduction of the Alma Mater was approved by the students back then, why try to change it now? Traditions are meant to be kept not destroyed. So what do we consider our Alma Mater now? If anyone knows, feel free to drop me a line. Thank you, Zully Martinez

[85] I read Roberts 'Unsolicited Commentary'. It is good to hear that EPHS students have taken a stand for something that is important to them. They did it in a manner that got attention but caused no physical damage or criminal mischier. I believe they showed they had commitment and maturity.

[92] For all you 1980 graduates, we probably should get moving on our 20th reunion plans -- particularly since our class gets to be the first to celebrate its 20th anniversary in the new millenium (depending, of course, on how you count it)! We do want to leave memorable mark so early in the century, I trust. I'm even willing to help do some of the groundwork if some of my classmates are willing to get the ball rolling.

[96] Seems like things never change. It is not surprising that someone in Eagle Pass is evading punishment due to the fact that he/she knows someone holding some type of office. Ever since I can remember 'la palanca', 'la politica', or whatever you want to call it has dictated who will get punished and who will simply get a slap on the hand. It's pathetic. Things like this make me ashamed of calling Eagle Pass home. I seriously hope that Mr. Serna or somebody else show some sincere interest and concern in this case. I became acquainted with Luis Serrano in school and I quickly noticed that this individual would end up causing trouble and grief without any remorse. I hope he gets punished for what he did and gets locked up for years to come. Someone needs to be made an example of to show all those low lifes that Eagle Pass will not tolerate anymore criminal activity. Then again, in order to rid Eagle Pass of crime we need to get real law enforcement officers who are truly interested in protecting and serving the community rather than simply picking up a paycheck and issuing an occasional ticket! For everyone's sake, I hope that the traditional process of sweeping everything under the carpet be done away with in Eagle Pass. Although I seriously doubt that anything will change.
